As the horse is breathing only through his nose, he can’t breathe through the mouth, nostrils must be perfectly cleaned and opened. Men took advantage of this feature to develop a system of disreputable conduct with a “noseband” which reduces or prevents the horse from breathing, the horse obeys orders not to suffocate.
